Privacy policy

Bolo is for learners 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.

Your email (for sign-in), your learning profile (level, goals, language), practice results (XP, streak, skill mastery, exam band summaries), spaced-repetition items, and short memory notes Bolo writes to personalise your coaching. Practice sessions log token counts and cost for our own billing — not your audio: your voice is recognised in your browser and never uploaded. Exam answers keep only the band summary, not the transcript.

Voice scoring (optional, off by default): if you explicitly enable phoneme-level voice scoring during a speaking task, that single voice clip is sent to Microsoft Azure Speech for pronunciation assessment, scored, and immediately discarded — it is never stored by Bolo or used for anything else. You can withdraw the permission anytime; scoring then falls back to the fully on-device method.

Desktop companion (optional, off by default): the Bolo Companion desktop app can, at your explicit tap, analyse one screenshot of your screen to help with what you're studying. Its optional watch mode (a separate consent, signed-in only) analyses about one frame a minute to notice when you look stuck. Frames are processed transiently by Google Gemini and are never stored, never used for training, and never shared. Turning watch mode off stops all captures instantly.

With your explicit, opt-in permission — a separate checkbox at sign-in, unchecked by default — de-identified snippets of your practice conversations (names, emails, phone numbers and long digit runs stripped) may be included in the dataset used to train Bolo's shared tutoring model. This only ever shapes the tutor's coaching style: your exam bands, lab answers and math verdicts stay computed by the deterministic engines, never by this data. Nobody else sees your raw conversations, and this is never sold or shared with a third party. Turn it on or off anytime on the Memory page — withdrawing is exactly as easy as granting, and turning it off also deletes anything already captured.

No ads, no selling data, no behavioural profiling beyond your own learning progress, no audio storage. (The one opt-in exception — training the shared tutor — is above, and it's entirely your choice.)

Access/export: download everything Bolo remembers from the Memory page (JSON or an Obsidian vault). Erasure: the same page has Delete my account — it permanently removes your account and every row you own. Signed-out practice stays on your device (localStorage) and never reaches our servers.
